Internal Competition Rules

Rules for the submission of entries

  1. The Competition Year will run from September to June

  2. All entries must be handed in to the Competition Secretary on or before the closing date published in the annual programme.

    Entries may not be accepted after that date.
    All entries are to be accompanied by an entry form. These are available from the club website or from the club prior to the competition.

  3. Mono and colour prints and computer manipulated images may be processed and/or printed commercially or by the author.

  4. a) There is a maximum amount of entries allowed per medium, per author for each round of the competition.

    (b) If, for any reason, the number of entries is too high to be reasonably judged, the number of entries per person may be reduced according to the stated preference. (From 2 entries, the entry listed 2 may be culled)

    (c) There will be an entry fee levied for each piece of work entered.
    This must be paid to the Competition Secretary at the time of handing in the entries.

  5. (a) Images for digital projection should be submitted on CD, DVD or memory stick in JPEG format. The ideal file size is no bigger than 1024 pixels wide x 768 pixels high with a resolution of 300dpi, giving a file size approx. 2.25 Mb per image.

    Before writing your digital file(s) to disc rename as follows:-

    (in block capitals) IMAGE TITLE by Your Name.jpg -
    for example SUNSET OVER LAKE by Peter Green.jpg

    It is essential that the title of your image is in BLOCK CAPITALS so that the software used to prepare the entries for projection can identify it.Once this is done, your entries are ready to write to disc/memory stick.

    On the surface of the CD/DVD should be written the name of the author and the date and details of the competition for which the entry is intended

    (b) Monochrome or colour prints must be mounted. The print size exclusive of mount) must exceed 200cm2 (31 sq.in. (218cm2 = 7” x 5”)

    The maximum size of prints and mounts must not exceed 40cm x 50cm (15.75” x 19.7”)

  6. Each entry must be labelled as follows (see diagram) Failure to do so may result in the entry being rejected. Each entry must bear the following information:-

    * the name of the competitor
    * The section entered
    * The order of preference number (1 = 1 st, 2 = 2 nd)
    * The competition date and name.
    * A title

  7. Work previously entered for an internal competition (excluding the OPEN Competition) is not eligible for entry. Slides, negatives or digital information may be used again for a second time, only as part of a composite print or digital image.

    Members are asked not to use an
    image repeated in other formats. e.g. a digital image re-appearing as a print.

  8. Any member not complying with these competition rules may have his/her entry(ies) disqualified.

  9. In the event of a dispute, the Chairman’s decision is final. Where the spirit of the society comes into conflict with the exactness of these rules then the spirit of the society will take precedence.

  10. Whilst every care will be taken with material submitted, the society cannot be held responsible for any damage incurred.

  11. Computer manipulated or digital images for projection, must use only original images which are the copyright of the member. Clipart or third party images from any source are strictly forbidden.

  12. Only paid up club members are allowed to participate in any of the club competitions.
